Arboretum Sketch Crawl

We enjoyed the Fullerton Arboretum so much last time, we decided to return yesterday for more sketching. There was a bigger group this time. Eight of us! Sketching, photographs, watercolors and Dori played with her pastels. (Played is an understatement.) Another beautiful day spent with friends.
I worked in my 5" x 7" Robert Bateman sketchbook. I threw some watercolor washes on a few pages, added the grids and was off to the flowers and veggies. I was going to put something different in each grid but this is what I ended up with.
Oh, the joy of just letting it happen! I really enjoy sketching the moment.

I am amazed at how much beauty is right out our door. We really are fortunate to live in so. cal. These are great and i like the formatting with the grids. Maybe I will try something like that this weekend.

I love the grids.... I was considering it for my own paintings. Good times!!!!!!!!!!

These are wonderful! I especially like the way you drew the grids and then ignored them -- the effect is quite window-y but probably let you focus on each one individually when you drew them. I like the ink outlines too, that's my favorite technique for myself.

It's wonderful how grids give a drawing a whole new dimension. These are really beautiful!
