Previous Trip Journaling

Haven't done anything big lately so decided to post some journal entries from last summer and fall. I go to Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Snowmass, CO every summer for art workshops. Last year I took my art journal and did a bunch of entries. I love the columbines and the eyes of the aspen trees. These hollyhocks were five feet tall, who could resist.

The last three are from a trans-Canadian rail trip my mother and I took last September. We went from Vancouver, BC to Montreal. It was a nine day trip with lots of stops and museums and such. It was a great time with great people and fantastic food, though the cabins were really really small. Good thing we like each other! We had a wonderful time.

Sketching is a great way to record a wonderful trip.
A camera and photos are great but a drawn memory
is much more personal and meaningful and fun!

These sketches are great. I'll bet that rail trip created many memories for you. My fav is the sketches of the totems. Nice work.

What a wonderful idea. The sketches are great. I wish I had done something like this years ago when we vacationed at Lake Powell. You're right, photos are one thing, but personal records are forever. Thanks.

I love these travel sketches. The Native American pieces are especially nice! The totems look like those we have in the Northwest. What a great keepsake from your trip.

Great, colorful images. I've never thought about aspen trees having eyes before...but they really do!

Sounds like a great summer.

Sketching from direct observation is the key! Good job.

These are wonderful sketches. And you're right about drawing vs photo.
I'm going away next week and I will try to draw as much as posible (and as my fellow travellers let me...;-) )

Looking at your sketches, I absolutely agree! I am most captivated by the "eyes" in the tree. It's a fantastic observation. :)
