A skunk ventured into the backyard Sunday night and Nina, the lab-shepard mix, tried to get it. Again, and again, and again. They woke me up with a bang on the wall and then the smell! It was so bad I had to leave. It's been five days and the smell is still around but very tolerable. The groomers said Nina got hit six times. I used five quart size bottles of de-skunk, two cans of air freshener and a whole bottle of vanilla. Mom said the vanilla would help removed the smell so I put saucers of vanilla around the house. As the alcohol of the vanilla evaporates it leaves beautiful golden watermarks and swirls on the plates. Hopefully, Nina has learned her lesson but I know if there were another skunk in the yard, she would go for it again and again and again. I better go buy more vanilla.

What a funny story! I know it must have been horrible at the time, but it is funny!
Good way to capture 'the moment'
with a drawing.
P.S. I really like your Blog.
This reminds me of the story of my sister's adventure in Texas last year when she ran over a skunk on the way home. Terrible! No fun cleaning the up at all. But the process was made easier with a huge dose of humor.
Cool tale. When I came home from school in the evenings, I would encounter at least one running along in the middle of the road. We used to have one when we lived in Montreal, Eloise. We gave her away to a paramedic when we emigrated. She would wiggle her way under the carpet, and there would be this bump in the middle of the room when we came home from work. She was cute, but when it rained she still smelled, even though she was 'descented.'
I still remeber that smell from when I was a child! Your blog is a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed the drawings.
i know that it is not funny for you, but i really had to smile when i read this post :)
Wow! And I thought I had problems with mice in the house ... don;t know WHAT I'd do if there was a skuck in the neighbourhood! AT least you had something interesting to draw!
This happened to us on the night before my second child was born, one of my dogs killed a skunk at my inlaws house where she was staying for the night. we had skunk smell around for a VERY long time! LOL over "better get more vanilla".
I thought we had it bad when Lucy(our Yellow Lab), kept going after Bee's. She'd keep getting stung and having her snout swell up to the point where she had a hard time breathing. She never learned her lesson. I'll take the bee's over skunks any day! Poor Nina...We love your Blog...
All that I can say is Nina has nerves of steel and fearless nose! No mere stinky odor would deter her. She’s indefatigable.
